Last month, I wrote about the reach of the Art Connections Gallery; speaking to the fact that some of
the artists showcased hail from different places than Texas. This month’s featured artist, Roberto
Ugalde, is a perfect example of this. While Ugalde currently lives in Giddings, TX, he was born in
Queretaro, Mexico. He studied at Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Queretaro before working as a
commercial artist for a calendar company.
An adept oil painter, Ugalde now creates mesmerizing oil landscapes and figure paintings. In his more
abstract works his quick, painterly style and his use of brilliant of color transform simple depictions of
woodland environments into active bursts of ecstatic imagery. But that does not detract from his more
traditional landscape works which are equally awe-inspiring. His effortless command of light and form
create engaging artwork that can capture the imagination of novice collectors while stimulating the
pallet of the most refined art connoisseur.
Ugalde’s work can not only found in the Art Connections Gallery in Bastrop but also the Capital Fine
Art Gallery in Austin, Texas and a handful of galleries in his native Mexico. We are proud to have
Ugalde’s work on display in our gallery. Stop by and see some of his wonderful art work. Who knows,
you may find yourself leaving with one of his gorgeous paintings.
