I recently attended the American Handcrafted Show in Philadelphia where I discovered many new artisans that I did not know about previously. One of them was one of the women from Beaudin Handbags and Accessories. While standing in their booth, I got goosebumps. Not because of the great cowhide purses and accessories that they make, although they are pretty cool. The goosebumps came from their story. "Beaudin was founded by a mother and daughter team whose passions for freedom and fashion collided!" was how they described what was happening with their product. They give a portion of sales to reach, rescue, and restore those in sex slavery. They also provide training and employment for those in difficult situations. They state that their products are made by women who have overcome. That still gives me goosebumps!
We have used the tagline "Art with heart" frequently at the gallery when talking about what we sell to allude to the fact that artists put so much of their heart and soul into their art and the fact that people frequently purchase art because it stirs their heart in some way. I would classify these purses made out of cowhide as "art with heart" because of the business plan that the women who founded and own Beaudin have put in place. I am proud to showcase these "Products with Purpose" in Art Connections Gallery.
