The diversity of mediums she works in stimulates her creativity. Although primarily working in printmaking, with monotypes, serigraphy, and lithography, she likes to push boundaries by overlapping and combining some of the different techniques each process offers. Other mediums she works with include fabric, painting, and photography.

AMERICAN CRAFT WEEK

American Craft Week is a very special event as it celebrates those creatives who make both fine art as well as functional items.  At Art Connections Gallery, this includes almost everything in the gallery ranging from jewelry to sculpture, cards to large paintings, purses to wine glasses, as well as hand crafted journals, and functional kitchen ware. In words from CRAFT, “American Craft enriches our homes, wardrobes, offices, and public spaces.  It contributes to our nation’s economy, our balance of trade, and the fabric of our national history.  It is original, beautiful and enduring.”

Art Connections Gallery will be doing demos at the gallery and on Facebook Live as well as posting tours of some of our gallery artists in their studios as we celebrate the event.  The schedule of events at Art Connections at 123 N. Main Street is as follows:

October 4, 3:45pm:  The gallery will do Facebook Post of a tour of jewelry designer Cynthia Bloom’s  studio in Austin, Texas

October 5, 4-7pm: During Octoberfest, there will be a demonstration of Watercolors by La Grange artist Polly Cisneros and a demonstration of Pencil Drawings by New Ulm artist Jean Blaise Oliver.  Tickets are required for Octoberfest participation but the gallery is open to anyone until 7pm.

October 6, at 1pm: There will be a post on Facebook of the tour of the oil painting studio of Kelley Goldsmith of Bastrop.

October 7, at 3pm: ACG will post on Facebook the visit with Jill Robinson in her Austin gourd studio.

October 8, at 3:30pm: Facebook viewers will be able to see our tour of painter Kristi Standley in her Austin studio.

October 10, at 3:30: There will be a Facebook Live event from the gallery with a 30 minute demo of acrylic painting where Houston Artist Holly Hunter Berry will share some of her knowledge of color and texture techniques in acrylic.  Participants will be able to ask questions online via Facebook.

October 12, 4-7pm: There will be the monthly celebration of art with an opening reception of the show by Kathy Callaway of Fayetteville and Roy Brown of Winters, Texas, “Metal, Clay and Paints”.  Kathy Callaway will be showing her new watercolor paintings as well as sculpture.  Roy Brown will feature his clay vessels that include work in metal and mosaic.  There will be live music and a wine and cheese reception. "Texas is a land of distinctive environments and intense heat.  As a native resident of Texas, I continue to be struck by the harsh terrains and amazed by the fertile pockets of life hidden within those terrains.....Livestock, birds and wild animals survive wearing the rich and lush colors of the earth.....I began a discovery of native plants, peering into their leaves and into the secret recesses of natural gardens in Texas."

Schmeckenfest is the Christmas event of the season in La Grange. Starting with a parade with Santa and activities for the whole family, the square is filled with the wonder of the season. The notable activity involves wassail tasting (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) by over 30 businesses and organizations all over the square as you wander through the shops for holiday shopping.
Art Connections Gallery will get in the spirit with our own offerings of wassail as well as music by our favorite holiday duo, Faire to Middlin.

"The Art of Assemblage" by Warren Cullar
Second Saturday Soir
ée
Saturday, November 10, 2018    4 PM - 7 pm

Second Saturday Soiree in November will feature assemblages by artist Warren Cullar. The assemblages are made from objects that have been collected by the artist as he has traveled the world making art for over 40 years. In the process of some downsizing suggested by his wife, Warren started to go through the many bins of keepables and "creative ideas exploded". He assembled them in boxes, in towers, in groups, looking for a good composition and interesting presentation. These sometimes whimsical, often educational, and always interesting collections will be shown at Art Connections Gallery during November and December. Music will be provided by violinist Enid Wood.
