The Battle of San Jacinto lasted a mere 18 minutes. However, the killing went on for hours after General Houston gave the order to cease fire. Many legends that have arisen from this battle making it hard to know truth from myth. Forensic artist Amanda Danning will explain how modern forensics has helped us understand where the legends come from and tells us more about the lives of the soldiers who died there. Her presentation will look at skulls from San Jacinto with one skull after another telling the story written in bone.

TEXAS FROM HERE: FLORA AND FAUNA
|
"Texas is a land of distinctive environments and intense heat. As a native resident of Texas, I continue to be struck by the harsh terrains and amazed by the fertile pockets of life hidden within those terrains.....Livestock, birds and wild animals survive wearing the rich and lush colors of the earth.....I began a discovery of native plants, peering into their leaves and into the secret recesses of natural gardens in Texas."

"The Art of Assemblage" by Warren Cullar
|
Second Saturday Soiree in November will feature assemblages by artist Warren Cullar. The assemblages are made from objects that have been collected by the artist as he has traveled the world making art for over 40 years. In the process of some downsizing suggested by his wife, Warren started to go through the many bins of keepables and "creative ideas exploded". He assembled them in boxes, in towers, in groups, looking for a good composition and interesting presentation. These sometimes whimsical, often educational, and always interesting collections will be shown at Art Connections Gallery during November and December. Music will be provided by violinist Enid Wood.
